I’m Jennifer Tatroe (pronounced TAY-troe). I’m a writer, artist, mother, and widow. Join me in my journey to live a creative life with mindfulness, ease, and gentle productivity in Los Angeles, California.
I was raised in central Illinois and, after a detour to the suburbs of Seattle and almost twenty years in Colorado, I now live in North Hollywood.
In addition to my current work as an online writer and content creator, my creative life has been broad and fulfilling, crossing through numerous art forms.
Writing and online media: I’ve published several short stories in print and online publications, including the flash fiction story, “Gone,” which was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2008. My previous, award-winning, blogs include Elphaba, Diary Of and Stomping Shoes.
Visual arts: From 2008 until 2019, I ran a paper arts business, handcrafting and selling realistic paper flowers and plants. You can still see my floral art portfolio here. I’m also an urban sketcher and visual diarist. I document much of that work over on Instagram.
Dance: I spent several years as an amateur and, later, semi-professional FCBD-style belly dancer with the two-woman troupe, Cohesion.
From Jenn was built with three core beliefs in mind:
1. A mindful life is beautiful. No matter where we live or how much money we have, we should have moments of tranquility and moments of awe and moments where our hearts feel full every single day—and we probably would if we stopped being too busy to notice them.
2. Everyone is creative. Not only does creativity come in many different forms, it also gets stronger the more you practice it.
3. Self-kindness is crucial. The only path to an easeful, fulfilling life is through love.
These three simple beliefs underpin every bit of content on this site, on the YouTube channel, and in the newsletter.
